MAP MATH TESTING (Monday & Tuesday) Healthy Day Out (Thursday) and Field Trip (Friday)

Important Dates

May 7th & 8th (Monday & Tuesday)

MAP Testing (MATH)

o Our class will be taking the MATH portion

of the MAP. We look at MAP scores to help us plan and teach based on student understanding. Please treat this as an important day and assessment. We are looking forward to seeing how much they have grown! Also, make sure to praise your child for any growth, they have been working very hard!

May 11 (Friday)

Field Trip (Monkey Joe’s)

  • Our Field Trip is $15

  • The $15 includes the costs of the bus, the entrance fee to Monkey Joe’s, and lunch which is pizza and a drink.

  • Please send in your $15 if you have not already.

  • We will still be eating breakfast in our school cafeteria on this day.

May 18 (Friday)

End of Year Celebration (LUAU)

  • We will have classroom awards and play fun, luau-themed games at 1:00

  • Please have your child dress in LUAU themed attire on this day. We talked about how we can just wear something we already have and you do not have to buy anything. Some examples are:

  • Tie Dye Shirts

  • Hawaiian Shirts

  • Pirate Shirts

  • Ocean Colored Shirts/Dresses

  • Flower Shirts or Dresses

  • Leis (Leis have been purchased for each child)

  • Grass Skirts (Dollar Tree)

May 21 (Monday)

GAMES Day

  • GAMES Day is similar to a field day. We will wear our classroom tie-dyed tee shirts on this day and will be playing fun activities outside. Please make sure to put sunscreen on your child in the morning if your child needs it, we will not be able to apply it on the child during the day.

Thursday (Day 4) –Music (Healthy Day Out on the Track- Please wear Tennis Shoes)

Friday (Day 5) –Art

What Are We Learning Next Week?

Math:

  • review of addition and subtraction

  • reviewing teen numbers 11-19

Reading:

  • Medial/Vowel Sounds

  • Ending Sounds

  • CVC Words (3 letter words)

  • “Chunks”- Sounds of sh, ch, th, wh, ing, or, ar, ur, ed, oo, ou, ow, ee, etc…

  • Sight Words:

  • Please remember to NEVER have your child SOUND OUT sight words, they just need to be memorized because they do not follow phonemic English language rules.

  • List 1-

  • the, to, and, a, I, you, it, in, said, for, look, up, is, go, little, we, down, can, see, not, one, my, blue, big, come, me

  • List 2-

  • red, jump, where, away, here, help, make, yellow, two, play, run, find, three, funny, he, was, that, she,

Writing:

  • Stretching out words verbally and writing the letters that we hear.

  • Using sight words in our writing.

  • Using our chin to break apart long words into syllables.

  • Writing an Opinion Piece
