Some important things to remember about using Dreambox at home:

  • As with Lexia, please allow your child to work and choose the answers on their own, without help.

    • It is important for teachers, since we use your child's individual math levels to guide our planning and implementing instruction.

  • The Dreambox program starts out with a math assessment to place your child at their own personal, individualized level of kindergarten numeracy and math skills.

  • After the initial assessment, the games challenge your child and assist them when they are struggling.

  • When your child is having a difficult time with a skill, such as addition, and your child continues to choose the incorrect sum, Dreambox takes note of the number of incorrect answers.

    • The program will go back a step and provide a mini-lesson to reteach your child the important concepts, then provides guided practice for your child.

    • Once your child is mastering the guided practice, it allows your child to go back to more independent and challenging skill games.

  • If your child has mastered skills on a level, it bumps your child up to the next level to challenge them once again, since they have mastered the skills at their level!

  • If you do not have internet access at home, we will make sure that your child receives computer time on Dreambox at school.

    • We have computer lab one day a week and sometimes your child may be able to get on the computer during Math Stations and Ready Set Learn Centers

    • Sometimes, when we have indoor recess due to weather, we allow students to use Dreambox if they would like to play on it during recess.

    • Please take into account that we only have two classroom computers and twenty four students, so we must all take turns and share.

Dreambox is an amazing program, but it does not replace classroom instruction and intervention. It is a great way for your child to practice the math skills and concepts that they are currently learning in the classroom at home. It is also easy for families! There is no "prep" work to make anything, you just need internet access.
