Lexia

How do you get to Lexia?

  • You can have your student login to their account at www.lexiacore5.com or click on the picture of the Lexia Program on the left (PC View) or below (Mobile View).

  • Then your child will need to enter into to their specific account using their username and password.

    • If you need us to re-send it to you, please write a note and send it in your child's T.I.G.E.R. Folder. We will respond as soon as possible.

Some important things to remember about using Lexia at home:

  • Please allow your child to work and choose the answers on their own, without help.

    • It is important for teachers, since we use your child's individual literacy levels to guide our planning and implementing instruction.

  • The Lexia program starts out with a literacy assessment to place your child at their own personal, individualized level of phonemic awareness, phonics, sight words, reading, and comprehension skills.

  • After the initial assessment, the games challenge your child and assist them when they are struggling.

  • When your child is having a difficult time with a skill, such as rhyming, and your child continues to choose the incorrect answer, Lexia takes note of the number of incorrect answers.

    • The program will go back a step and provide a mini-lesson to reteach your child the important concepts, then provides guided practice for your child.

    • Once your child is mastering the guided practice, it allows your child to go back to more independent and challenging skill games.

  • If your child has mastered skills on a level, it bumps your child up to the next level to challenge them once again, since they have mastered the skills at their level!

  • If you do not have internet access at home, we will make sure that your child receives computer time on Lexia at school.

    • We have computer lab one day a week and sometimes your child may be able to get on the computer during Literacy Stations, Guided Reading Groups and Ready Set Learn Centers

    • Sometimes, when we have indoor recess due to weather, we allow students to use Lexia if they would like to play on it during recess.

    • Please take into account that we only have two classroom computers and twenty four students, so we must all take turns and share.

Lexia is an amazing program, but it does not replace classroom instruction and intervention. It is a great way for your child to practice the literacy skills that they are currently mastering in the classroom at home. It is also easy for families! There is no "prep" work to make anything, you just need internet access.
