Next Week and the Last Week of School

5/11 (Thursday) Healthy Day Out

  • During specials time (10:35-11:25) you are welcome to come join us in celebrating Health by walking the track to promote healthy exercise.

5/17 (Wednesday) GAMES Day

  • GAMES Day is similar to a field day. We will wear our classroom field trip tee shirts on this day and will be playing fun activities outside. More information to come!

5/18 (Thursday)-End of Year Awards Luau

  • Our Awards Celebration will be LUAU themed on Thursday, May 18th. Please make note of this, if you would like to attend.

  • We will have classroom awards at 1:45 in the library.

  • You can dress up your child in Luau themed attire. The Dollar Tree usually has cheap items to help celebrate. However, you can always wear items that you already own at home. Some items that work for this day are Hawaiian shirts/shorts, tie-dyed attire, leis, grass skirts, etc….

5/19 (Friday) Last Day of Kindergarten

  • This will be the last day of school for students in Jessamine County, it is a half-day. Students will be dismissed at 10:45 a.m.

  • Your child will be sent home the way they normally go home unless you send in a note. Please let us know if your child will be sent home a different way on this day.

NO HOMEWORK!

  • We will have no more homework for the remainder of the school year. Please feel free to read to your child at home or use Lexia, Dreambox or Reading A-Z for extra practice at home.

What Are We Learning Next Week?

Math:

  • beginning subtraction with symbols

Literacy:

  • Medial/Vowel Sounds

  • “Chunks”- that make a funny sound when they are together- not their regular alphabet sound (sh, ch, th, wh, ow, ou, ai, ee, oo….etc)

  • “Blends”- consonant sounds that say their regular alphabet sounds (bl, cl, fl, sl, sn…etc)

  • Sight Words: review (please do not have your child sound them out, they are tricky and do not follow alphabetic rules, your child needs to know them on “sight”)

  • List 1: the, to, and, a, I, you, it, in, said, for, look, up, is, go, little, we, down, can, see, not, one, my, blue, big, come, me

  • List 2: red, where, jump, away, here, help, make, yellow, two, play, run, find, three, funny, he, was, that, she, on, they, but, at, with, all, there, out

Writing:

  • Stretching out words verbally and writing the letters that we hear

  • Writing big words by breaking them apart into syllables
