Visit to 1st Grade and Next Week!

Important Dates:

4/24 (Monday) – Transition to 1st Grade Visit

  • To help students transition to 1st Grade at a new school. Teachers from JELV will take your child to visit their 1st Grade school for a portion of this day. Please feel free to contact us or the front office if you have any questions.

4/26 (Wednesday) – SNAP Math Assessment

  • Our class will be given math tasks to complete and assessed on their math knowledge in these areas-

  • Forward Number Counting Sequence (counting from 1 to 100 or more),

  • Backwards Number Counting Sequence(from 20 to1)

  • Number Identification (1-20 or more),

  • Addition & Subtraction skills

  • Finger Patterns (building amounts with fingers without counting each one individually)

  • Spatial Patterns (quickly identifying amounts of dots on a dice, domino or five or ten frame without counting each individual dot)

  • First Grade teachers look at SNAP scores to help plan and teach based on student understanding. Please treat this as an important day and assessment. Make sure your child has plenty of sleep on Tuesday night!

5/4 (Thursday) - Family Fun Night

  • Family Fun Night will take place from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at JELV. Please check your child’s folder for more information to come, as the date approaches.

5/17 (Wednesday) GAMES Day

  • GAMES Day is similar to a field day. We will wear our classroom field trip tee shirts on this day and will be playing fun activities outside. More information to come!

5/18 (Thursday)-End of Year Awards Luau

  • Our Awards Celebration will be LUAU themed on Thursday, May 18th. Please make note of this, if you would like to attend. We will have classroom awards at 1:45 in the library.

5/19 (Friday) Last Day of Kindergarten

  • This will be the last day of school for students in Jessamine County, it is a half-day.

NO HOMEWORK!

  • We will have no more homework for the remainder of the school year. Please feel free to read to your child at home or use Lexia, Dreambox or Reading A-Z for extra practice at home.

What Are We Learning Next Week?

Math

  • beginning subtraction with symbols

Reading:

  • Medial/Vowel Sounds

  • “Chunks”- that make a funny sound when they are together- not their regular alphabet sound (sh, ch, th, wh, ow, ou, ai, ee, oo….etc)

  • “Blends”- consonant sounds that say their regular alphabet sounds (bl, cl, fl, sl, sn…etc)

  • Sight Words: review (please do not have your child sound them out, they are tricky and do not follow alphabetic rules, your child needs to know them on “sight”)

  • List 1: the, to, and, a, I, you, it, in, said, for, look, up, is, go, little, we, down, can, see, not, one, my, blue, big, come, me

  • List 2: red, where, jump, away, here, help, make, yellow, two, play, run, find, three, funny, he, was, that, she, on, they, but, at, with, all, there, out

Writing:

  • Stretching out words verbally and writing the letters that we hear

  • Writing big words by breaking them apart into syllables

  • Writing “Opinion” pieces
